It’s the most wonderful time of the year! I bet you sang that, didn’t you? I know I sure did. Christmas is a time for cheer, excitement, and festivity…but it’s also a time when we tend to overindulge (just a little).

Think about that Christmas dinner menu, did you know that delicious roast could contain a whopping 2,128 calories? Or think of those Christmas after-dinner drinks, which weigh in at 1,327 calories, or even those tasty treats “just because it’s Christmas” that can add up to another 1,290 calories… and that’s just one day!!! (stats according to Business Insider)

Over Christmas dinner 2019, you could consume almost 5,000 calories, and while there’s nothing wrong with indulging a little, just this once. The chances are, after all that gluttony, you might be feeling a tad bloated.

We’ve all been there! And don’t worry, there are a few tricks you can use to make sure your entire year of healthy eating doesn’t go to waste at the last moment. So, stay on the nice list and let’s get started with the best activities to do after a delicious holiday feast.

Christmas after-dinner workout activities

Activity 1: Family games

For me, Christmas is all about family time. Spending that one very special day with the nearest and dearest. That’s why it only makes sense that those after-dinner activities are family (or friend) centered too.

Why not try out a game of Twister to stretch those limbs, get moving, and have some laughs too? You can discover who’s been sticking to their exercise routine this year and who’s been faking it!

Or why not play a game of Christmas charades? Team up and see who will be the winner, keep it as active as possible to burn some extra calories.

Activity 2: A Brisk Stroll

There’s nothing like the great outdoors – the fresh air, nature, and on Christmas, there’s even a hint of magic. So, tie up those walking shoes and hit the trail for a brisk stroll. There are some really great benefits to it too.

Activity 3: Sledding

If you’re lucky enough to see a white Christmas, then sledding is the perfect activity for getting a little exercise in and laughing all the way as you slip and slide down those hills. The trudge back up (aka the not so fun part) will help burn some extra calories too – win, win.

Activity 4: Charity Run or Swim

It’s the season of giving, and what better time than Christmas day!? Plan ahead and find a charity run or other event to participate in. Get that feel-good feeling inside and out, knowing you made the world a better place. You can even bring the family and boost support for your favorite cause.

Activity 5: Yoga and thankfulness

Even if you prefer to stay warm and toasty by the fire, that’s no reason not to get a little bit of movement in. Grab your yoga mat and stretch it out. You’ll feel so much better afterward. Don’t feel like moving too much? You can even explore these helpful chair yoga poses.

And remember to follow it up with thankfulness. Keep you Christmas mantras positive and we’re sure you’ll see good things in the coming year.
